Well this discussion is… disappointing.
Here’s a link to a far better analysis than I could write myself - http://joolabee.tumblr.com/post/48710098770/i-am-disappointed-in-everybody-or-no-my
Right now I’m just irked that our communal disappointment at Johnlock being laughed at as a serious concept is ‘funny’.
Note, I don’t even say that as a Johnlock shipper. But why is it such a ridiculous idea? If they were a guy and a girl, would it be the same? I really doubt it.
you know what I want? Completely disregarding what they do with the plot, I want the most epic, BAMFiest version of Mary possible, and I want to ship her with one of the other female characters while I happily continue to ship Johnlock. Or maybe I want to ship a complex poly relationship in which Mary’s the one who starts off queer and tells the boys to stop waiting around and get to it. I want to see something that represents me, and you all, I want something that at least acknowledges the validity of representing us.
I want a Mary as great and badass as in the Guy Ritchie films. She was wonderful.
The fact that Amanda Abbington returned to Twitter NOW and so blatantly FOR THIS SOLE PURPOSE irks me to no end.
I’m not even addressing the fact that they are actually writing off the ship THEY CAME UP WITH IN THE FIRST PLACE as mere fandom madness (which Amanda Abbington herself signed into, back when she wasn’t in the payroll and it was good for business to keep fans happy and close)
That is downright disappointing.
I’ll be honest, this is pretty fucking horrible.
I’m too actually fucking bothered by this to analyze why this is fucked up right now, but yeah this is actually PRETTY FUCKING HORRIBLE.
Maybe people think it’ll happen because if it weren’t for what the writers and show-runners feel the need to disclaim off-camera, THERE’S NO REASON NOT TO.
ugh this is really fucking horrible i’m genuinely upset about this attitude being thrown at fans who just made the mistake of thinking this show was being inclusive and proposing that “it’s all fine”.

Everyone was at Martin Freeman’s house, and Martin was there and his wife was sat at his feet and Amanda [Abbington, Freeman’s wife] was crying and so was I and I tried to laugh it off but that turned into this enormous sob in front of everyone and I just thought, oh brilliant. I just found it terribly moving. Martin is just amazing in that last bit, it’s beautiful, that kind of incomprehension and devastation, it’s fantastic, with his sort of military shuffle at the grave. Fantastic.

Because you’re all so lovely to Martin. And you’re all really nice. You all seem very intelligent, funny, and talented girls. Seeing some of the artwork and some of the stuff that was being written. It’s so good. Martin’s very very very very private—freakishly private, which is a good thing. I love that he is. But I just wanted to say thank you on his behalf and say hi and I fully support what you’re doing. It’s fine! And I’m not one of those girlfriends or wives who goes, “Those bitches!” I’m not like that at all, and I just wanted to say, you’re doing a fabulous job, because you are. I think it’s lovely how much you love Martin, and I love it. I genuinely love it.
- Amanda Abbington on what made her interact with the fandom and the fans.

hi i dreamed that there was some kind of informal/semiformal sherlock panel in my living room
and the director was there but it wasn’t paul mcgiugan or anything
and some other people like maybe sue
but none of the cast
and amanda abbington was there
and I made her really uncomfortable because I kept hitting on her.
and then i was all nervous and trying to be suave and charming and flirtatious, and it just made her not want to talk to me, and all i remember is the feeling of burning mortification as she avoided my eye contact.
that was my whole dream. i dream about awkward social situations with people i like.

No clear idea why I like this series other than a voyeuristic need to look upon Amanda Abbington and Martin Freeman making mock love for the camera.
Then again, that’s really quite enough to be going on with.

So yeah. This all happened. Had brunch with Amanda Abbington and there were laughs and anecdotes and some serious fandom discussion (she loves you all btw, like seriously), and a really dodgy drink.
She’s such a delightful person and was really very gracious with her time. You all are going to seriously die at some of her anecdotes and whatnot. We want to tease you with some, but we don’t want to spoil it! Aaagh guuuuuys, this is all amazing and really, really… she fucking loves fandom. All of you. So much. And so does Martin.
So yeah, here are two pics from the day (we were mostly just chattering away and I forgot to take any candid shot). The first is just the lot of us and the second is Amanda listening to the song Caitlin wrote her. (The story being that Amanda was sent Caitlin’s song about Martin and she absolutely loved it. We joked/ordered Caitlin to make Amanda a song too… and voila!) We’ll play the song during the podcast :)!
Going to try and edit it as fast as possible, so keep an eye out for it!
