Ok here’s a genuine question is how do people feel about selling derivative works for profit?
I sell prints, bookmarks, buttons of fan art at cons and I’m okay with that. They’re cons; that’s what people do there. But for some reason, selling mass-produced (not commissioned one-of-a-kind) fanworks outside of a con makes me feel a little skeevy, profiting off of someone else’s universe.
I’m asking cuz I have some ideas for fandom tee shirts (in addition to prints and other stuff), that I really like and I imagine other fans would like too, but I know I’d be in the wrong legally; I’m just unsure about morally. I’m not living paycheck to paycheck so I wouldn’t need the money to survive, but I’m not comfortable and money-worry-free either. Just interested in hearing feedback from other artists and buyers!

i was really pleased with the costume, mostly because harley was and harley knew who she was! she had a great time at her first con and loved getting her picture taken! these are all that I really have of her, though, so if anyone else got pictures of babby Korra please message me and let me know where I can find them so that me (the costume maker & handholder), her momma, her papa, other friends and babby Korra herself can enjoy them!

I am finally going through my Otakon pictures from this year for posting, and I realized since I didn’t know a single one of you, I still have a butt-ton of Otalock and Otawholock (is that a thing) pictures from the year before, 2011! I’ve had a lot of people asking me, “So what happened to you at Otakon?” Finni and I have been quietly mentioning some of the incident with the staff we had this year, but still keeping it hushed since we were hoping to see it resolved internally and professionally… but it…
I was planning to try for Otakon next year since I’d really like to do an east coast con, but after this and all the other stories I’ve heard, I’ll probably pass :( Cons are already stressful enough even when nothing goes wrong…
I AM WEEPING I WOULD DIE TO GO TO A CON YOU ARE AT
Otakon is really losing out on quality artists and attendants because of their poorly-run AA and communication failings. It’s also really, really unnerving seeing that a staff member actually said they would reject an artist’s application because they annoyed them. I would really really like to do Otakon again but if I even make it past the rigorous and overwhelming application/lottery process, I have a lot of trepidation about how the Alley will go itself.
NO BUT REAPERSUN PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE COME TO AN EAST COAST CON I’M DESPERATE FOR YOU
